Research question
How can 18 to 20 year old Chinese students who have FOMO (fear of missing out) anxiety effectively manage it in the age of social media and rapidly changing trends?
Challenges
- Social media and FOMO is a huge topic
- Conduct the research and interventions with an objective perspective
- Not many experts and articles about FOMO in China
- Find and communicate with my stakeholders is hard
- Ensure the interventions were applicable to 18 to 20 year olds
Conclusion
The rapidly changing trends in social media have led to information overload. China’s 18 to 20 year olds grew up in a digital environment and under the influence of the Chinese education system, many students can develop FOMO anxieties.
In conclusion, I deeply understood the psychological state of Chinese students between the ages of 18 and 20. Feedback from the intervention shows that giving psychological workshops, controlling mobile phone usage time, and turning off social media notifications, and interactive devices within the school have varying degrees of positive effects in helping to manage FOMO anxiety. The project achieved its aim of helping young people to develop self-awareness, develop meaningful interests, build self-affirmation in their lives, and ultimately radically reduce their reliance on social media.
